FC1 is up and running great with true type fonts installed by putting a bunch of fonts in my home directory like so ~/.fonts , but they do not show up in Gimp and they did not show up in a non rpm install of Mozilla until I modified the unix.js file to point to the directory and turn true type fonts.

Is there something similar to do in Gimp to get true type fonts? All the info on the Gimp site is focused on getting a font server up and working, but I've already got that.

GIMP 1.2.x is based on GTK+ 1.2, which only knows about the non-antialiased core X fonts, generally supplied by a font server. The Fedora Core 1 Release Notes (http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/) explain (under "General Notes") how to add fonts to that subsystem.

I'd suggest you give the development version of the GIMP (1.3.x) a try, available from e. g. fedora.us' "testing" repository (the package is named "gimp2"). It is based on GTK 2, so it supports antialiased TrueType fonts (via Pango (http://www.pango.org/) and the fontconfig (http://freedesktop.org/software/fontconfig)/Xft duo) from ~/.fonts or /usr/share/fonts.

Thanks very much for the heads up on Gimp2 (1.3). I had to scratch around a little to find it but I used the apt repository located at

rpm http//download.fedora.us/fedora fedora/1/i386 testing

then apt-get install gimp2

and there it was in all its glory. Glad I did it with apt becauese it updated lcmp as well.

It does indeed support my installed fonts. To do that I selectd files=>preferences and fonts under the folder sectuon, then made an entry for my fonts folder. Very easy.

Thanks again.
