apache will not start.

i have removed all, and reinstalled with the ADD/REMOVE GUI.
Same thing.
Any thoughts?
I am leading a class!!!

[root@055lab2wks17 ~]# /etc/init.d/httpd start
Starting httpd: /usr/sbin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.0: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied

it looks like it is giving you some sort of dependecy error. Have you tried to install the apache web server through yum

yum install apache

?? It should solve any dependencies for you.

It could be a selinux bug. Did you activate it during installation? Have you updated the whole system with yum?

fresh install of fedora core 3 from CDs
no firewall.
uniform hardware in our lab.
no problem on some boxes.

what is SELinux?

never used yum.
it was suggested to try installing apache with it

the pcre package is installed
