View Full Version : Graphical greeter corrupt can't boot system

Hell Linux nerds, I am in need of a work around... I am very new to this OS, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I installed a graphical greeter, rebooted the system and got a message saying that the graphical greeter I installed was corrupt, the only reason why this is a problem is: I have not way to get a terminal to remove this greeter. How can I get a terminal prior to the GUI... I guess similar to a DOS prompt in windows??? Any help is much Thanx

From the post:

You could try and hit ALT-F1 which should take you to text console

Log in as root and type in the following to restore the factory default GDM configuration:

cd /etc/X11/gdm
mv gdm.conf gdm.confBAK
cp factory-gdm.conf gdm.conf

You for sure know your ****... Thankyou after I overwrote thoses files it booted as it did before. One more question when I mount my cdrom drive it says I only have read access, what is the deal with that...

mount /dev/hdc /etc/cdrecorder
with the gui I can open the files but not copy files to the CDr, I think the read only is messing me up with writting to CDs
