I am having a problem with my newest Fedora Core 3 machine. I have 2 other Fedora Core 3 machines that are running just fine. The last one is a 2.4 Ghz P4 (with Via MotherBoard) and a FX5200 Nvidia. I installed Fedora late last week. After the first reboot, startx is freezing. I have updated the nvidia driver, the nvidia splash screen appears/disappears and startx starts to process. At this point, the hard drive goes silent and it never leaves the state of a black screen with a mouse X in the middle The X moves on the screen in coordination with the mouse, so the machine isn't frozen. I can CTRL+ALT+F2-F4 to a new console. However, X is locked up.

I have since replace the FX5200 with two different ATI Rage cards and a Nvidia MX400 to no avail. They all appear to stop at the roughly the same place after starting startx. It doesn't make it far enough to display the Gnome Display with the processes it is starting.

Any ideas?

In the console type "startx" and you should get some output
that might tell you or the board why x is failing.
