Hi,

I am running FC3. and recently installed synaptic. When I ran synaptic it gave me warnings that multiple packages had been installed and that they will not be updated unless I remove them.

I do not know how those duplicates got installed.

I need some advice on how to remove the duplicates and how to avoid installing duplicates in future. Also I would like to know what could be the source of the duplicates.Could it be the addition ofrepositories like freshrpms.net?

Also synaptic shows a number of files as broken. With more rpms being installed I get more broken files. How do I correct these broken files.

Thanks,
Vishnu Murahari Rao.

What I would do would be open up a console, type rpm -qa | grep <name>, su, rpm -e <name>-<version>. This should remove the old duplicate version you have installed on your system. Then synaptic should work again.

I tried the commands you gave me.

I still can not remove them because the packages contain multiple packages.

Below I have pasted the output when I ran the commands.

[root@localhost gyum]# rpm -qa|grep gnutls
gnutls-1.0.20-3
gnutls-1.0.20-3
[root@localhost gyum]# rpm -e gnutls-1.0.20-3
error: "gnutls-1.0.20-3" specifies multiple packages
[root@localhost gyum]# rpm -qa|grep fribidi
fribidi-0.10.4-6
fribidi-0.10.4-6
[root@localhost gyum]# rpm -e fribidi-0.10.4-6
error: "fribidi-0.10.4-6" specifies multiple packages

Please advise.
Thanks,
Vishnu.
