Back in my windows days, before I learned the power and versitility of Linux, I used to use Vegas 4 for my movie authoring. I am wondering if there is a similar software available for linux.

I found long ago that the Jasc animation shop was capable of creating slide show .avi files with transitions, but no sound. Vegas could add the sound and then compile it for DVD. instant DVD Slide show. I want to continue creating my slide shows and movies, but cannot find the authoring tools I wish to use. I guess I could make my own, but that would take forever.

So, can anyone answer one of the following:

1. Is there an AVI creation tool that supports image transitions (like an animated gif, but capable of high res and saves as AVI files)?

2. Is there a good Mpeg/DVD authoring program that will allow me to blend files and add sound tracks?
