so how can i add newly installed programs to the gnome menu?
i want to click on the red hat(same as Start menu in win), and add a newly installed application to any of the folders such as "programming" or whatever.

moreover, eclispse for instance requires startup.jar along with the app launcher, so how can i add these 2 files into 1 symbol so that i can click on the name of program from red hat menu and execute the program?

Check files in /usr/share/applications/ folder.
These files are the menu files, check the contets, the syntax is simple.

Sometimes apps use /usr/local/share/applications/ folder to install menu item, you need to move them into /usr/share/applications/ to show up in menu. The same goes for icons, some apps put them in /usr/local/share/pixmaps/ instead of /usr/share/pixmaps/

The menu question is a FAQ. (http://www.fedorafaq.org/#editmenus)

As for eclipse, mine came with an eclipse executable I could run.

Here's the command-line for my custom menu entry for Eclipse:

/opt/eclipse/eclipse -vmargs -Xmx512m

All you need to do is execute the launcher program - it takes care of finding everything else for you.
