When you use RPM or Yum to install a package, how do you tell where the thing is being installed and where the files are going? Sometimes the app has the obvious name and is in the path, and sometimes it's not. It makes it hard to run when you have no clue where it is.

See my post: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=18616#post18616

As mentioned there, rpm -q --list or rpm -ql will list the contents of a package.

You can also list the contents of a package before installing it with rpm -qlp foobar-1.0.0.rpm

I've also found the makeinstall macro (rpm --eval %makeinstall) to be useful as it lists system paths, which should be used when building something from source (ie: ./configure --bindir=/usr/bin mandir=/usr/share/man infodir=/usr/share/info).

Thanks. -ql was exactly what I was looking for.
