View Full Version : Remote Backup on Fedora?

I have a quick question of how people are backing up their remote systems (Web Servers without tape, or human access) to another host that is also Internet facing? We would like something that can be scheduled (cron), secured in transit (encryption of data or transmission), support levels (full, incr., etc.). I know I could use something like rdump, but has anyone done this within an SSH tunnel?

So here is the need. we would like to backup data from Host1 to Host2 (specific directories only) securly over the Internet every night at a given time. Suggestions?

maybe http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/ . It does support ssh. You can start it with cron. And it also supports levels. (Afaik the default is the first ist full the others are increment)

rsync works over SSH and not only will it compress the streams, it will actually synchronize the backup with the live system, given the appropriate command-line flags.
