I have fc28 beta installed on an intel dual core system. I had
a few days in which dnf update would fail on some kernel packages.

Then yesterday the update completed. I am curious about the versioning
that I am seeing in the boot directory as everything is f29?

My thoughts are that the Fedora 28 you are using is actually some rawhide that is being migratted to the */composes.
