View Full Version : xfce Desktop - Customization

I installed the xfce spin of Fedora 27 on VirtualBox. I've changed the startup splash screen, icon displayed on the Applications button, icon theme, wallpaper, and a few other changes. Two things.

1. Is there a way to change the login box look?
2. Even though I made the changes mentioned above, when I log into Fedora, it first shows the default wallpaper. It then changes to the wallpaper that I selected. Why does it do this and is there a way I can correct this?

The login screen in Xfce is LightDM. You can find a lot of guides to customising LightDM. You can even replace the greeter which is the package that supplies the screen layout. The Korora site has a few guides on LightDM, Korora is built on Fedora so the guides will work for Fedora too. See https://kororaproject.org/support/documentation/lightdm

also, there's this guide of tweaks. it's a little old now but the methods for most of the suggestions still work okay (use dnf where it says yum):

chromium is now in the fedora repositories if you need it as well but it's best to focus on the graphical environment and font tweaks from this guide and ignore the package repository advice. for that, you are better using fedy.
