I'm running 4.15.2-300 kernel on Fedora 27 with KDE, completely updated as of 2/15
I'll notice the laptop fan spinning up to a high rpm and see the 'htop' shows a periodic very high cpu usage by
plasmashell and kwin_x11.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7559 (Skylake i7-6700HQ) which has a GTX 960M and Intel HD530 so I suspect
it's some kind of heating problem due to the dual graphics (no bumblebee or prime setup)

I would be interested if someone else sees this, it's not continuous but seems to fluctuate, I have minimal
desktop effects on (almost nothing). I do have a weird broken plasma widget that I can't seem to delete.

I was able to delete the bad widget, the cpu averages are back down to more normal levels

which widget was fubar? someone reported similar leakage on manjaro but hadn't managed to find where it came from, did you also check RAM usage because that also spiked in their instance?

I think it was the "'web browser - add a web page on your desktop" widget. Maybe it was pointed to a page it couldn't deal with correctly (bad js, etc) and caused a loop. The laptop has a lot of ram (16G) I didn't notice big ram usage, just the high cpu on plasmashell and kwin_x11

Thanks, I'll pass the information on tomorrow

their issue was caused by a Global Menu widget
