Hi
An Australian shop purchased DVD will not play or allow mouse selection of the menu. It works with Windows 10 perfectly?

root@localhost pc-user]# dnf install libdvdcss

sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled fedora-cisco-openh264

dnf repolist

dnf clean all

sudo dnf update --best --allow

Wonder if my codec list is incorrect?

tks

yep you're still missing libdvdcss. use one of the remi packages that matches your fedora version and architecture from here. i686 is 32-bit and x86_64 is 64-bit. http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libdvdcss&submit=Search+...

It seems you have libdvdcss installed.

[root@localhost pc-user]# sudo dnf install libdvdcss.

Package libdvdcss-1.4.0-2.fc27.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.

That version on your system looks to be the sourceforge one:
libdvdcss-1.4.0-2.fc27.x86_64,
whereas the remi one is:
libdvdcss-1.4.0-1.fc27.remi.x86_64.rpm.

Both are at the link in antikythera's post #2.

If the dvd you are trying to play still will not play despite libdvdcss being installed, it may simply be that libdvdcss can't deal with the coding on your dvd. That installed vlc should play it, or alternatively mplayer. libdvdcss is not infallible, but it's been quite reliable for me, although not 100%.

I tried to open the menu with Media Player (also named XPlayer) the menu started scrolling very quickly.

I appreciate your reply.

Hi
Installed Mint 18.3 everything works perfectly, must be a codec Fedora does not have.

http://www.binarytides.com/multimedia-codecs-fedora-23/

su -c 'dnf install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

sudo dnf install gstreamer1-plugins-base gstreamer1-plugins-good gstreamer1-plugins-ugly gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-extras ffmpeg

Install libdvdcss - Libdvdcss enables media players to play encrypted dvds. It is not available from the rpmfusion repo.

sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo=http://negativo17.org/repos/fedora-handbrake.repo

sudo dnf install libdvdcss

wonder if this would work on F27?

yes it should work but I prefer remi's build of libdvdcss and you don't have to add the negativo handbrake repository (which sometimes causes version conflicts) to get it installed either. you can download the single package and install it directly with dnf locally.

thanks very much for your reply, will test it.

interesting Windows 10 and Mint 18.3, both work perfectly, and Mint seems so much more a polished system than F27

by the way, F27 is supposed to have ffmpeg decoding support already so you may be able to drop that last package from the install command line. as for Mint seeming polished, it should really as Cinnamon is their creation. If you want similar 'just works out of the box' codec experience with Fedora you should definitely consider Korora Project from your countrymen.
