Just wondering if Fedora 27 has or will update to kernel 4.14. I have had problems logging in, and in fact I have needed to boot and install in basic graphics mode. Once installed all I had to do is uncomment wayland, but once I did this I still had a blurry out of focus default wallpaper and lock screen. Changing desktop wallpaper solved that problem, but changing lock screen image would not change to what I chose, it still had default image which is still blurry. The problem I believe, is with kernels 4.12.x and 4.13.x. I believe it is due to these kernels and, Gdm, Wayland, and Nvidia. In my case I have both Intel hd 630 and Nvidia Gtx 1050 gpu’s. Hoping Kernel 4.14 will help alleviate the problem.

Ps Same issue with Ubuntu 17.10

please refer to this - https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?316055-Will-F27-final-version-come-with-Linux-4-14

however, as of now, there is at least one more 4.13 update coming before 4.14 is packaged for anything other than rawhide. 4.13.14 is next according to koji. the changelog (https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1002396) doesn't really give any pointers that would indicate any fixes, just a version number in this instance.

I see, sorry I did not see that sooner. Well I will just have to stick with Fedora 26 for now.

this will prompt the roll-out of the 4.14 kernels fairly soon I reckon. 4.13 is end of life as of this announcement by the developer upstream

Why what is broken?, rpmfusion nvidia is working fine here with lightdm/cinnamon

OK cannot login, enter password hit enter and everything freezes. I can login using basic/recovery mode, then I have to uncomment Wayland=false in custom.conf. Since I cannot login the first time with default kernel, the default wallpaper looks life my yougest granddaughter's attempt at finger painting. I am hoping this will shake-out in kernel 4.14 or 4.15. Btw this is a Gnome Display Issue no problems with lighDM or the Slick Greeter AFAIK

actually it's an nvidia driver compatibility issue with mutter the wayland compositor, not something that will be resolved by a kernel update.

I see, well anyway I hope Fedora 28 has a fix for it. I am stuck with Winders:doh: for now.

You have three choices

1. enable eglstreams mutter using copr repo
Fixes gdm so you get the choice to use xorg or wayland sessions, wayland sessions use mesa fallback for Xwayland so might be slower and use more CPU.

sudo dnf copr enable mati865/mutter-eglstream
sudo dnf --disablerepo="*" --enablerepo="mati865-mutter-eglstream" reinstall mutter

reboot

2. disable nvidia modesetting

sudo grubby --update-kernel=ALL --remove-args='nvidia-drm.modeset=1'

reboot

3. Use lightdm

sudo dnf install slick-greeter
sudo systemctl disable gdm
sudo systemctl enable lightdm

reboot

Btw this is a Gnome Display Issue

Gnome are painfully slow enabling eglstreams support, nvidia submitted the pull request in May but they wasn't in time for 3.26 release (still not merged in 3.27).
Hopefully the bug reports generated from my nvidia changes will encourage gnome to adapt sooner, other wayland DE's shouldn't be held up because gnome are slow.
Nvidia modesetting is also used for Optimus Prime (GPU switching using xrandr).

P.S You should have read the guide :)

Back up and running Fedora 27, went with option 3, not a big fan of GDM anyway. Next is following your guide for Nividia. Hope it work with Nvidia GTX 1050.
