I installed Skype long ago but have not used it in quite a while. It did not work so I reinstalled the newest version. That works fine, but I now have TWO Skype entries in my menu (one works, one does not).

How do I remove the non-working version?
Hopefully both from the menu and from the software.

This was ugly. I managed to remove the entry but found no way to remove the old software.

So for the record (as root)

cd /usr/local/applications
grep -i skype *
----> this was the clues, I needed
mkdir /tmp/incaase
cp mimeinfo.cache /tmp/incase # did this incase, but did not need it
mv skype.desktop /tmp/incase # same as above
using vi, I removed the redundant entry from mimeinfo.cache

It is ugly and I am sure there is some old skype crap, but ....

Hi rholme
I would run the following, as root.
dnf list installed | grep skype. You should see both skypes if they are installed. Mine shows as follows:
$ dnf list installed | grep skype
Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'fedora-HandBrake', disabling.
skype.i586 4.3.0.37-fc16 @@commandline
skypeforlinux.x86_64 8.9.0.1-1 @skype-stable

[root@PANTRY 432 /usr/local/bin]
$

If you want to remove the 4.3 Version just run
rpm -e skype. It will not touch the other one as it has a completely different name. As well it will only remove 'skype' and not its libraries etc. I would NOT use
dnf remove skype because it may remove some lib or other item that some other program uses. This should get rid of the older skype for you. Cheers...
