Happy with vanilla install of F26 Workstation. My hardware, old Toshiba Satellite with a SSD.

I run weekly: fstrim -av

Is that still necessary? Does Fedora detect and maintain SSD's?

Appreciate thoughts and help for a perpetual noob :)

Apparently something like the following will do:

systemctl enable fstrim.service
systemctl enable fstrim.timer

but there are some other ideas the forum as I remember.

Nevertheless, timer looks like what you need:

[tom@owl /lib/systemd/system]$ cat fstrim.timer
[Unit]
Description=Discard unused blocks once a week
Documentation=man:fstrim

[Timer]
OnCalendar=weekly
AccuracySec=1h
Persistent=true

[Install]
WantedBy=timers.target

monthly trim should suffice for a notebook as unless you are constantly installing and deleting files to the ssd you won't get any actual gains from doing so more often
