many are http://arewewebextensionsyet.com/

And i think after 57 release later on many will be ported. The firefox developers have given reasons here https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2016/03/14/webextensons-whats-in-it-for-developers/

Hello dodona.

I hope you will forgive me for what I will write here about FireFox.
But as I understand the construction of the browser They first of all allows the browser protection !!!
And not the plugins that have security breaches into the browser.
At least from the plugins that I've already installed on the browser,
such as using free proxies, ad block ultimate,
Privacy protection, screenshots are all excellent and work well.
Therefore, I do not really agree with you that there is A lost of the way with the FireFox browser.
I see the browser more defensive, faster, and maybe more then with more support for audio and video issues that the end User add before.
But this is my personal opinion and it does not obligate anyone to agree with me.
Each with his own through , and his understanding of the software.

there is a strong competition. Too strong for a major redesign making the web experience of the old beloved browser impossible. Guess if no wonder happens this 'cut' will be the end of the fox. I am running the fox from the very beginning. Imaging a world without the fox is very hard for me. Nevertheless, if most plugins will be unavailable in the future as they are now, then I'll move to chromium, as I feel more familiar with that broser than with its ff57 clone.

Hello dodona.

Funny that you mention Chromium as your Option of fall back Browser.
I will point you for the Security page on that Browser,
And maybe you will think again about that Option?

severity-guidelines:

https://www.chromium.org/developers/severity-guidelines

To me it is Holes all around that Browser in the Security meter.
I will think again if I where you. ;)

BTW - Look into the FireFox add-ons Options that Compatible with Firefox 57+ , and see what can be install on your Browser.

I am a firefox user. Its just that I started with netscape, and grew with it over time. I do not mind if the chromium can render a page in 1/10th of a second while Firefox needs 1/2 second. I still take my time to read a page of interest.

My one criticism of the existing FF is the lost space due to Frame, tool line and menu line. The three could have been integrated onto one line, with the possibilility of a laterally scrollable window. I currently view all youtube stuff in full screen, or hit F11 within firefox to increase the amount of space for the "data to be viewed".
FF is looking to do the same with 57, to remove dead-wood, and clutter.

I have seen people complaining that Firefox is becoming a copy-cat of chrome for this exact reason! :)

I am excited about Firefox 57 personally. Sometime back, I moved to chrome but I am interested in taking a look at firefox again. (I went to chrome mainly because chrome seemed to be lighter and for the two or so sites that wanted to use Flash - much easier with chrome.)

FF had a lot of security issues in the past, and so will have in the future. security issues aren't the reason for the 'cut', a corrupted code base, and obsolete xul technologies are. As a look&feel compatible chrome clone FF doesn't need xul and all the (already gone) fancy themes anymore. And there is the reason to propagate the new rust programming language, as we now create the whole world on rust again. We have a rust emacs, a rust kernel, .., and finally a rust FF.

From what I read about Rust, it is a language that allows for perfection. Memory management, and other facilities to manage security.

They say that developers who move to rust, prefer to remain as Rust programmers, as opposed to JS or Java

Hello to you all.

Just like to add some info for you all on the New FireFox Option to get you more secure.
There are good add ons that you did not have before to your Browser protection Like:

1 - uBlock Origin.
2 - Privacy Badger.
3 - Adguard AdBlocker .
4 - VPN-Proxy (Premium)free to use.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/privacy-security/?sort=users

Now After you will configure them all,Just log in to your Facebook and see i tall.
You can see there how Facebook try to break in your Browser to get all Audio/Video chat =
It block all !!!
Block them for you Privacy Options to go into your chat/Video/Audio Trace.
in the configuration you can block all options in those add-ons.
On that site You can see that he block Options too.

I want to say a few words to the users of the site.
Just for the record.
People who have a little trouble getting something new immediately complain about something imperfect, something unclear.
In the 12 years I have created many systems for the world.
My way was different from Fedora because I installed everything preinstalled for the end-user system.
In order not to reach the end-user's complaints section on all support issues.
Which seems to me a fitting solution for the Fedora system today.
When a little user wants to run back and back,
It tells me that something on the way did not work right with the scheme of manipulating the system for the benefit of the end user.
That is, what the members who build the system does not exactly provide a solution to the end user.
It starts with the backgrounds I've created for years, but never came to fruition on the systems.
This means for the system software that did not really give you the option to create a backup disk for your existing system for quick recovery.
What I am trying to say here is that it is possible to make life easier for the end user.
What I am trying to say here is that the system can be very protected and the end user can eat the whole cake without difficulty in understanding the processes.
The end user needs to have a system that works perfectly.
Not a system that has been plagued with processes of system creation and responses from its end users.
System creators do not need to share the end user in their work !!!
They should give a perfect system for work !!!
That's just for the records.

FF57 still can't do my favoured extensions and probably never will. However I found a alternative:

How can Firefox be a clone of Chrome if it uses completely different engine, code etc.? Or maybe you think it is a bad thing that Firefox is now as fast as Chrome :)

If you were a developer developing this extensions and cared about compatibility, I think you would have a different opinion. I think extensions should be made cross browser compatible as much as possible and that this is a good move. Firefox Quantum also brings new and faster engine that makes Firefox competitive again in terms of performance as well.

Also I think relying on extensions is a very dodgy way of doing things and should be made only if absolutely necessary. Take Gnome Shell as an example. Most commercial extensions needed to get some job done are supported for all major browsers BTW. This will make it easier for more developers do the same.

Hello dodona.

On firefox there is no issue with import the Bookmarks.XML.
Library =>Bookmarks =>Show all Bookmarks -in the bottom of the window =>import & backup.
