View Full Version : [SOLVED] mediawriter fails to start. Cannot write Fedora 26 boot USB-stick

I downloaded Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-26-1.5.iso

Installed mediawriter (to Fedora 23)

Trying to start it:

# mediawriter
Fatal: Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags(), depthBufferSize 24, redBufferSize -1, greenBufferSize -1, blueBufferSize -1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior 2, swapInterval 1, profile 0) ((null):0, (null))

Doing xmessage test works, so it is not a XWindows permission problem:

# xmessage test

Something to try to fix this, or is this a bug to be reported?

If tried to run as a normal unpriviledged user, it crashes.

$ mediawriter
Fatal: Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags(), depthBufferSize 24, redBufferSize -1, greenBufferSize -1, blueBufferSize -1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior 2, swapInterval 1, profile 0) ((null):0, (null))
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Well, did it in old fashioned way then:

# dd if=/tmp/Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-26-1.5.iso of=/dev/sdd bs=8M status=progress oflag=direct
Works.

BTW, neither livecd-iso-to-disk worked. It complained the USB drive did not have GPT partition table, although it did. I made a GPT partition table to it with gdisk. Then it asked to use --format option, which I did, but it complained again.

# livecd-iso-to-disk --format --efi /tmp/Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-26-1.5.iso /dev/sdd

Press [Esc] to abort check.
Checking: 100.0%

The media check is complete, the result is: PASS.

It is OK to use this media.

mkfs.fat 3.0.28 (2015-05-16)
EFI boot requires a GPT partition table.
This can be done manually or you can run with --format
Cleaning up to exit...

Mind posting this? (and report it...)

$ glxinfo | grep -i opengl

BTW, I have rebooted since the machine which still has F23 and where I tried to write the F26 Live Image.
Now mediawriter has no problems to start, neither as root or as normal user.

anyways:
