So, I've been knocking my head against this particular wall in my quest to go Linux-only at home.
My Epson 3170 scanner simply refused to work with Fedora.
After much reading of forums, manpages and other articles I finally got the blasted machine to work! :)
So, for my fellow newbies out there, I give my step-by step howto

- First you'll need the package iscan-firmware

sudo dnf install iscan-firmware

- Now install SANE

sudo dnf install sane*

- get the drivers from Epson's site : http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/?OSC=LX

- go to the folder where you downloaded iscan and do
sudo dnf install iscan*.rpm

In my case there were no 64 bit drivers available, so using dnf all the 32 bit compatibility dependencies were also installed.
After all this turn on your scanner and do a
sudo sane-find-scanner to check if your scanner is found.
Iscan finally works!

agreed, as such would you mind if it was moved to the Guides and Solutions section?
