I tried yum groupinstall kde on a new fedora server 21 installation. It updated 587 files and then installed what appeared to be the KDE installation. Some files were KDE, some were Xorg, some cups, graphics, etc. But startx won't get me to a desktop gui. It fails. Install is on a HP ProLiant DL360 G5. The only server option I installed was the webserver. Tried to install yum groupinstall "KDE Desktop Compilation" after that but the result was that there was a conflict between it and the Fedora Server Installation. How do I get to a GUI? Any GUI OK but I prefer KDE.

KDE Desktop is what you are looking for (groupinstall) - yum grouplist will verify the name.

yum groupinstall "KDE Desktop" or yum groupinstall kde-desktop will install the KDE desktop environment.

Do any of the other desktops work?

Look in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file or the .xsession-errors in your login directory to see what the errors are.

Another way to come at this, install the F21 KDE spin and ad the web server application you need :)
