Hi all,

I'm writing this (mini)tutorial to install and configure BOINC to avoid someone waste it's time to understand how it works.

Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) is an open-source software used by some scientific project to exploit the power of distributed computing.

1) Install it from repository:

$ sudo yum install boinc-client boinc-manager

2) Start the client:

$ sudo service boinc-client start

3) Start boinc manager:

$ boincmgr

4) In the main window of boincmgr go to View -> Advanced View

5) Then click on Advanced -> Select Computer and in the prompt write this:
Computer name: 127.0.0.1
For the password copy and paste the content of /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg
Use this command to see the password:

$ sudo cat /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg

Click on Add button

6) Go to Tools -> Connect to a project or an account manager
Now should appear a window where you can select the project where you would prefer to join

After each reboot you have to do all steps except first. So I did this simple script to make this process easier:

#! /bin/sh
sudo service boinc-client start
sudo cat /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg
nohup boincmgr &

Note:
If you have connection problem maybe you can try to unblock 31416 port in the firewall settings.
