Is it possible to do an fdisk /dev/sde2 from dev sda which is a seperate hard drive with fedora 21 installed on it, sde has fedora 21 kde installed on it

Uhmm... not sure why you have a problem with this.

If you boot from /dev/sda, then definitely yes.

However, fdisk requires root permissions, so you need to do 'su -' first. That may be what is tripping you up?

No su isnt the problem flyingfsk,I was told to use live cd/dvd, so you are saying if I boot from another hard drive I can use fsck to fix problems on another hard drive,ie use sda to fix sde

Nope.

Your specification "/dev/sde2" is specifying the second partition on disk "/dev/sde".

fdisk will not work.

You CAN do "fdisk /dev/sde" though.
