I was trying to make my printer sharable. When trying to access server settings via gnome gui I get a multiple errors.

It does not accept either root name and password or user name and passowrd.

It also gives cups error if you cancel password dialogue.

Some times it says The password may be incorrect, or the server may be configured to deny remote administration.

Then some other message. Somtimes gives cups server error: "There was an HTTP error: Not found."

Adding/removing printers with the gui works. The server settings are accessible via browser.

From reading a ubuntu bug1349387 report, i found a solution (it appears permission error)

sudo chmod o+r /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

It worked.
