View Full Version : Grey line on desktop (HW issues?)

Has anyone had this problem? I'd like to try explaining it, but I feel attaching 2 screencast recordings is a better way to describe this problem. I think it has something to do with window management.

I happen to use Guake as a terminal as well.

Thanks in advance.

I think I saw a problem like yours, but am not very sure, it arised because Gnome couldn't find the correct modline to use and so it starts guessing what that should be and that is what causes the differences.

Have you tried using xrandr -q or xrandr --verbose -q?
To see what it is passing to Gnome?

Sorry I can't find the bugreport that I saw.

Also there more things to look into, like the log files to see what messages have been posted on the /var/log/messages.log file or the journalctl and using the gnome 3 debug mode aka looking glass

Also the xsession error log file

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15608817/how-to-debug-on-gnome-shell-3-6-3-8-or-newer (about xsession errors and where to find them)
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr (about xrandr)

xrandr's output doesn't show what the problem is.

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected primary 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm
1366x768 60.0*+
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

As for bugs go, yes, ABRT has reported there are issues on gnome-shell. I haven't found an answer to that.

Here's another webm to show how this problem behaves.
