I'm running a 64bit fedora 20 xfce spin 2 weeks ago, my graphic card is Sapphire Radeon HD 6870, very luckly to successfully installed the lastest amd graphic driver 'Catalyst-14-4' version after next command:

$ sudo yum -y install dkms gcc binutils make kernel-devel kernel-headers

infos shown at below:

$ uname -a
Linux fdround 3.13.10-200.fc20.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Apr 14 20:34:16 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
OpenGL version string: 4.4.12874 Compatibility Profile Context 14.10.1006

Currently running the fedora 20 with no big major problems, except sometime freezing at gdm login screen!
Now I'm facing to make a decision, if I gonna update the packages that yum informed me, it containing a new kernel '3.14.2-200.fc20'. I'm not sure if it will crash that I've met before, also many people said that got a bland screen after the update? I've read some topics says that dkms will help, but I'm not sure if it's true?

Somtime is fun but sometime is hurrible to update packages!

Does any body has any idea?

Thanx

I currently can not get the AMD driver (from amd website) to install properly with the new 3.14 kernel. I tried some other method as described in my amd driver thread here (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=298800) in the forums without success.

It took me some wrangling to get back to what I had and I will be sticking to that until AMD fix the compile problem on kernel 3.14.

My recommendation is to hold off on the new kernel if you need the AMD drivers.
