I installed FC on my home PC (it already had Windows) with the dual Boot configuration.

Everything works, but when I boot with Linux the system is continuously accessing the Hard Drive - The LED stays on and I can hear the drive and the fan crank away. Dont have this issue when I boot with Windows.

The system response is also slow - Firefox comes up twice as fast in Windows ...

Any ideas why this happens?

When you first boot into FC, cron runs some programs that haven't been fired off at their appointed time. Two of them (makewhatis and prelink) can take a loooooooooooonnnnnnnng time to run, especially if you interrupt them and don't let them finish.

You might also check your process table (the ps command or various UIs in both Gnome and KDE) to see what processes are running at that time.
