I installed Fedora18 32 bit in virtualbox (Host is Fedora17). I installed with netinstall iso plus cinnamon desktop.
I installed kernel-devel, kernel-headers, gcc & dkms & thereafter virtualbox guest additions. It did not set correct display.

My monitor display is 1280*1020. It allows me to set it at 1280*960. Next size is 1440*1050.

I checked graphics. It is using llvmpipe. Is it ok?

Further desktop icons are not showing even they are enabled in cinnamon. There is no setting in cinnamon to set show icons on desktop. It was available in gnome-tweak-tool (Advanced settings). However if i try to install gnome-tweak-tool, it tries to install gnome-shell and other packages as dependency, which i believe totally defeats purpose of installing cinnamon desktop( total 991 packages).

Can i show desktop icons without installing gnome-tweak-tool?

You don't need no g-t-t rubbish

run

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true

First- Thank you yellowman- it works
Second- regarding display, it required kernel-PAE-devel. I missed error message at addition of guest-addition. Fedora18 on giving RAM of 1480MB, installed PAE kernel in virtualbox. I thought it will be normal kernel and hence mistake. Problem solved.
