Hey!
I am trying to modify /etc/php.ini
I run chown jon /etc/php.ini
Once the permissions are changed, I open the file with gedit, and make the changes I want.
When I go to save my changes, it gives me this error...

gedit could not back up the old copy of the file before saving the new one. You can ignore this warning and save the file anyway, but if an error occurs while saving, you could lose the old copy of the file. Save anyway?

...and gives me two boxes "Save Anyway" and "Don't Save"
Clicking Save Anyway doesn't do anything, but Don't Save works.
I am running Fedora 17

Anyone have any ideas?

Don't chown the file (restore its original ownership and permissions), you must edit the file as root (http://www.fedorafaq.org/basics/#root).
