View Full Version : RPM installs a right pain!

Why do RPM installs have to be so convoluted?
For example, I wanted to install Xine....download the rpm, try to install it and you have about 2 dozen dependancies not fulfilled. Trying to resolve those dependancies is nigh on impossible unless you know linux fairly well.
This, I think, is what puts off most newcomers.

Thoughts?

That's why there are apps like yum and apt4rpm !

Thats the reason why we point users to applications like yum and/or apt/synaptic.

Such applications will resolve all dependencies for you ;)

[EDIT] great ... same time, but ilja MUST be faster :D

So in answer to the question,
yum install xine (http://fedorafaq.org/#installsoftware)

Thanks folks.
It's not too clear unless you ask though.
I'll give it a go over the next few nights.

Hi,
Again not so straight forward - I ran yum install xine and get the message HTTP Error 404: Not Found.

I'll keep trying.

Guess who....?
Sorted, I found someone elses take on the yum.conf which did the trick.
Although my final word has to be 'tainteasy'.

Thx again for pointing me in the right direction.
