Hi

As part of the release of Fedora 16 (Verne) today, I am proud to
announce the launch of Ask Fedora at http://ask.fedoraproject.org. Ask
Fedora is a community knowledge base and support forum for the Fedora
community. You can ask any questions related to Fedora and you do not
need a separate id to post questions or answer them.

PS: Ask Fedora is purely for question and answers. It is *not* meant to be a discussion forum like this one.

I tried registering with my OpenID. It takes me to my OpenID.com login but the redirect back to the ask.fedoraproject.org never takes me back. I think there is some problem with the redirect loop. Could you please check when you get a chance? Thanks!

Is a linear list a good organization ?
Doesn't this overlap/detract from the FedoraForum effort ? To what good end ?

Doesn't this overlap/detract from the FedoraForum effort ? To what good end ?
i can understand where Rahul is coming from with this website he made, but i think at the end of the day if people want answers etc there gonna come to the forum anyway not go somewhere New to get them

It's probably a good idea here to remember that giving free and constructive assistance is the final goal in both environments, and we really are not in any kind of competition.

Never seen that link before and it doesn't seem to support most of the features of Ask Fedora

I agree. What Fedora could really use, rather than another question/answer forum, is a
wiki format knowledge base.

The change from grub to grub2 is a good example. I have read the F16 Release Notes,
Installation Guide, and the installed grub2 info docs (which are notably useless and don't
incorporate Fedora's changes to grub2), none of which clearly address the issues that
are appearing on the Fedora Forum.

Why can't Fedora provide even minimally adequate documentation for what amounts to a
major feature change in the distribution? Comparable to:

It is more than a little disheartening to have to go to other distros to find good documentation.
Misappropriation of resources, to say the very least.

i agree, they do need to fix the wiki up rather than Add a useless askbot thing.

@sonoran, Ask Fedora has a in-built wiki feature. Instead of complaining, how about helping improve documentation?

@detox, Dissing on what others do for free isn't nice. Over 250 questions have already been answered via what you called useless

yeah i have been there ( well at the site anyway ) if i want answers on something either i'll come to the forum or look at the wiki but as bob said above i think, we'll see how successful it is. , i just cant see many from this community using that feature

just an idea. but perhaps leigh might wanna make a Link to the askbot page in fedoraproject it might get more coverage

It is already quite successful and getting dozens of questions and answers everyday. Thank you for your interest.

hmmmm...just a single suggestion....we can have common search results of "fedoraforum" and "askfedora" on ask fedora website , in separate pages and/or with demarcations.:)

Its a good idea however Implementing search in fedoraproject.org needs someone to volunteer to set it up. If you are interested, let me know and I will guide you through the process.

Good idea, I also agree on the "improve thewiki" and available documentation out there on the intertubes. I can't count the number of times I've searched for a topic related to some issue I'm working on, and the only documentation out there is for Ubuntu....

iv'e noticed lately even Ubuntu has this feature also
