View Full Version : Firefox default spelling dictionary

I've been wondering since upgrading from 13 to 14 why the spell checker in Firefox does not recognize common US-English words like 'movie', 'color', and 'favorite'. This behavior was duplicated in Fedora 15. It was never anything seriously bothersome, which is why I have failed to chase down the cause before now.

Anyway, it turns out that the default language of my Firefox build was "English / Hong Kong". I have since switched it to "English / United States", and everything is now fine. In case you didn't know how to do this, you right-click in any text box containing 2 or more lines, and select "Languages".

I assume this option is set somewhere during the build/installation process. It's easy enough to fix, and everything is working as it should, so this isn't a bug report. More of an FYI. I guess I'd prefer that Firefox packages were automatically set to US-English, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who prefer some other language.:)
