Freshly installed trying to burn a DVD+RW with this command
growisofs -Z /dev/hdc=/isos/FC3-i386-DVD.iso
Executing 'builtin_dd if=/isos/FC3-i386-DVD.iso of=/dev/hdc obs=32k seek=0'
/dev/hdc: "Current Write Speed" is 2.4x1385KBps.

You might want to use "-M" option instead of "-Z" option.

(from man growisofs)

To master and burn an ISO9660 volume with Joliet and Rock-Ridge exten-
sions on a DVD:

growisofs -Z /dev/dvd -R -J /some/files

To append more data to same DVD:

growisofs -M /dev/dvd -R -J /more/files

(Additional Note from man growisofs)

Note that DVD+RW re-formatting procedure does not substitute for blank-
ing. If you want to nullify the media, e.g. for privacy reasons, do it
explicitly with ’growisofs -Z /dev/dvd=/dev/zero’.

(More Note from man growisofs)

You might also want to add "-dvd-compat" option.
ex) growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=image.iso

-dvd-compat
Provide maximum media compatibility with DVD-ROM/-Video. In
write-once context (DVD+R and DVD-R) this results in unappend-
able recording (closed disk). In DVD+RW context it instructs the
logical unit to explicitly burn [otherwise optional] lead-out.

But what does -dvd-compat have to do with recording over a DVD? I don't wan't to append therefore I didn't use -M. I am not recording a DVD-video, I am recording an iso of FC3 on a dvd. Doesn't the lead-out take place after the recording ends? BTW after installing k3b it has the same error on that disk. The disk wrote fine the first time, but won't re-record on the same disk. That kind of makes RW kindof not doesn't it?

Thanks for your help.

Have you considered the possibility that the disc is destroyed? By for example testing another DVD+RW disk?

Have you also tried writing to it from another OS (e.g windows)

It could simply be a compartability problem between your drive and the disc.
