Hi everyone! I want to make a program that looks like sandra but for linux. In C++ using Qt. Can you tell me anything that can be useful? Up to now I have in mind glxgears, hdparm, ls* (mod, pci...), cat /proc/* (cpuinfo, meminfo) and df. But glxgears doesn't "catch" many effects like bluring and alpha blending for example (or does it?). hdparm can't tell me how fast my hdd WRITES (or can it?). Please, if you have anything in mind, tell me. Everything can be useful :)

Something like this system information tool? (http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=&location=pinformation&langx=en&a=)

You may not find a complete suite like that. But for starters try System Tools > Hardware Browser. It will give you general information. I found links to some diagnostic tools here (http://www.linuxlinks.com/Software/Utilities/Optimizers_Diagnostics/). There also is an entire system category (http://freshmeat.net/browse/136/) on freshmeat.net. These links may not be what you are looking for, but they are a place to start looking.

Another tool for checking performance with 3d acceleration is the Crystal Space 3d engine walktest program.
