View Full Version : deprecated configfile /etc/modprobe.conf

17th November 2010, 07:30 PM
after trying a shell script for installing Iomega NAS management SW I see (when booting with F2) the following warning:
Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf all configfiles belong into etc/modprobe.d/

System is extremely slow when logging in. But I cannot find such a file in /etc

I find

-modprobe.conf.irda in usr/share/doc/irda-utils-0.9.18
-modprobe.conf.5.gz in usr/share/man/man5

shall I move them to etc/modprobe.d/ ?

Any other idea? Any help would be very appreciated

best regards andreas

If you search the forum, you should find a thread about the issue. In a nutshell, /etc/modprobe.conf was obsoleted some time ago. However, a few out of date scripts create the folder for you. The easiest thing to do is:

sudo rm /etc/modprobe.conf
