hi! I found different _beta_ spins available (XFCE/LXDE,etc) but none for Meego, does anyone know when it'll be available? I'm more than interested in testing the new Meego GUI.
TIA!

Looks like you have to have the rawhide repo enabled to get it at this time as it is not available
from the F14beta release repos. If you enable rawhide you'll be pulling in F15 packages so proceed with caution. :D

Thanks to both answers, I'll wait till the spin is released... (anxiously waiting)

Here's a link to the meego-netbook live.iso from the meego site Meego-Netbook (http://meego.com/downloads/releases/1.0/meego-v1.0-netbooks). I'm d'loading now and will try it on an Acer Aspire One.

Does anyone know when the Fedora 14 Meego spin will be released? Alternatively, is there a way to install from the Desktop version / command-line that will give exactly the same installation as if installed from the spin iso?

The Fedora site link in post 2 states that you can try it out in Fedora 14 by opening a terminal as "su" and entering:
yum groupinstall meego-netbook
and if everything goes well you should be able to get to it from the login screen at the bottom panel as a choice of "Fedora Netbook".

I was particularly interested in this spin in order to just have the Meego environment without Gnome and all that stuff; anyway I'll try your suggestion, thanks.

You should go to the link in post #5 and d'load the MeeGo 1.1 release for you device and give that a try.

I installed Fedora 14 on my HP Mini 1000 netbook and it is running great. I then attempted to install Meego with:

yum groupinstall meego-netbook

The install completed. However, when I try to login to the Meego desktop, all I get is a white screen and cursor, the desktop never loads.

Read the "F14 known issues" at

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F14_bugs#meego_no_worky

The Meego Environment was not ready for the F14 release, and is, sadly, currently unusable. We'll just have to wait a little longer.

Well darn. That is new, I hadn't seen that yet. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for the spin.

Is the meego environment not working yet?

You got me. I tried for craps and giggles to see how it worked, and the instructions are not to my liking. It says to play with the pre F14 RPMS, to use rawhide and do a yum install meego-netbook.

Well I am not going to use rawhide on a perfectly working system. Much less the rawhide one rev back :D And yum install -y meego-netbook does not work. There is no package called that in the fedora or rpmfusion repos. And searching for meego is even less helpful.

You can download a pre-release nightly build of the Fedora 15 Meego spin from here:

Ahh, cool.

But what about packages or install instructions for F14/F15 standard desktop installs?

Thanks.
Andrew.
