I am trying to change the user ID on a directory and I want the change to propagate to all the files and subdirectories. Any ideas on how I do this?

chown -R uid:gid (directory)

See man chown for all the gory details. :)

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't look at that? You're welcome. Feel free to bump my reputation. :)

There are so many ways to do things with Linux, the obvious way isn't always so obvious.

Well, I am fairly new to linux so sometimes I miss the obvious. I came from a windows and Novell background and sometimes I forget about the command prompt in Linux. Thanks Again!

The best resource for common commands: man and apropos.

Don't leave Linux without it... :D
