I personally use the DownThemAll! extension for Firefox.

("Download accelerators" are somewhat overrated, especially if you have a really slow connection such as dial-up. Bottom line is that you're not going to be able to exceed the speed that your ISP has provisioned, but you may see marginal benefits from fetching multiple chunks if the server from which you're downloading throttles each transfer. In other words, "download accelerators" typically only help if the bottleneck is server-side.)

[root@mintoo Desktop]# yum info prozilla
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Available Packages
Name : prozilla
Arch : i686
Version : 2.0.4
Release : 11.fc12
Size : 92 k
Repo : fedora
Summary : Advanced Linux download manager
URL : http://prozilla.genesys.ro/
License : GPLv2+
Description: ProZilla is a download accellerator program written for Linux to
: speed up the normal file download process. It often gives speed
: increases of around 200% to 300%. It supports both FTP and HTTP
: protocols, and the theory behind it is very simple.
: The program opens multiple connections to a server, and each of the
: connections downloads a part of the file, thus defeating existing
: internet congestion prevention methods which slow down a single
: connection based download.
: ProZilla also supports file download resuming, and ftpsearch for
: fastest ping times.

i have not tried it myself , but seems to be good ...

if you are on fedora ... just type

yum install prozilla

into your terminal ...
