I have been running F10 for a while and just got the following error at boot:

There is a problem with the configuration server.
/usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256

I think this happened when the machine locked up (or at least appeared to) and I cut the power to shut down - I know this isn't recommended but I didn't know what else to do.

I have searched for solutions to this but haven't found fixes that I can understand. I haven't used CLI much but am trying to learn. I need more of a step by step. For example I found some suggestions to use fsck. I tried running fsck but wasn't sure exactly what options I should use or what to look for in the output.

I can boot into rescue mode from the install CD or from hard drive but am a bit unclear what options to use, mounting/unmounting disks, etc.
