i injured my hand and can't type. (hold the one-handed typing cracks, please)

anybody suggest a good voice-to-text app, something like dragon naturally speaking?

thanks.

also there are some apps in the repos, but the speech recognition ones (as opposed to the rather good text-to-speech apps) are mostly just toys, do 'yum search speech' and 'yum search voice'.

yum install pocketsphinx
pocketsphinx_tidigits

wait for it to say "READY", then speak out some single digit sequences. It's not bad, but not very practical, I never played much with the other stuff (type pocketsphinx and hit tab to see a list)

It uses your default alsa device for input (I had to use advanced volume control to select Digital Mic, since I have digital on my laptop), check it's working with something like

arecord -f S16_LE -r 8000 -D default > record.wav

say something, hit ctrl-c then see if it plays back

aplay record.wav
