I have this modified Thunderbird that lets me use IMAP with my Yahoo! mail.
http://www.crasseux.com/linux/thunderbird_yahoo_imap_non_debug.tar.gz
I ran the file /bin/thunderbird in there.

The problem is when I start thunderbird from the Applications menu and ALT+F2 and type it it runs my other thunderbird that doesn't work. When when I click mailto links like this (mailto:test@example.com) it doesn't work when when I click links in email messages (like topics notifications I get for forums like this) they don't open, I have to copy and paste them.

How do I make this modified thunderbird work like normal where it's more interactive with the OS, I am not sure sure if it would automatically check for new emails and use Ubuntu's notification system to inform me of new messages...

you can go to System --> Preferences --> Preferred Applications and select the default applications that are run.

For your modified thunderbird, on the internet tab --> mail reader, select custom and then put the command for your modified thunderbird in there.

Now for the thunderbird in your applications menu.. go to System --> Preferences --> Main Menu and in the left hand column select Internet. Then you can select the New Item button over on the right.

Is there a way I can simply make "thunderbird" the command. I tried copying the files from /bin in the archive to /bin on my filesystem.
