i'm running fedora on an hp pavilion dv7 laptop. the laptop has a line/mic input as well as the onboard "digital mic". in F11 the gnome volume control did not let me select this for my input source so i had to use the gst mixer to switch my input from the line in to the digital mic. F12 does not have the gst mixer, nor have i been able to find it in the repo. alsamixer -c0 lets me select the digital mic but the gnome volume control still shows the line/mic input as the active input device. is there a way to add an additional input in the gnome volume control so that i don't have to find another mixer program every time i want to change my input source?
thx

Well, there's a way - we fix gnome-volume-control / PulseAudio to work with your device :) Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.redhat.com on the pulseaudio component (Fedora version 'rawhide'), explaining the problem, and including the output of the 'alsa-info.sh --no-upload' script.
When it works right, you should get a drop-down menu on the Input tab of gnome-volume-control, labelled 'Connector', which lets you pick the appropriate input. If you don't have that menu, or it doesn't list the input you want to use, that's a bug that should be filed as I describe above.

the aim of g-v-c is to expose the controls you need for all cards without any manual configuration of what controls to show or not show. obviously this does need some tweaking for certain hardware...
