I have a ".xfz" file and want to open it for reading. When I try to open it using Kate, or any other text editor, I get junk. When I try to open it using Mozilla, it tells me that this file is of type "/application/octet-stream" and it doesn't know how to handle it.
How can I open this file for reading?

Please let me know.

Thank you.

try to execute:

file filename.xfz
in the consloe and it will show you.

and Octet stream sounds like Video. Try totem to open it. (just a guess)

application/octet-stream can be just about anything binary, from executables to images. Do the file command.

What is the full file name?

Sorry for the long absence, but I was out of the country.

Anyway, I checked out the file using the 'file' command and it says that the file is a 'data' file.

What do you think?

It's obviously a binary file, which is why you can't open it in Kate. Try gunzip on it and see what happens...
