View Full Version : Guide to Compile Custom Fedora11 Kernel?

I was wondering if there was a HOWTO lurking around here (or else where online) on how to recompile a custom kernel for Fedora11. I found this old guide (http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_fedora) but was wondering if there is something more current I should use before I give that a go.

Thanks,
~Jeff

Basically, this is what I do.

make gconfig

then hit save, because it loads the current presets that fedora has, so you have a base to work with

then just select from there. The most common things done, though probably not recommended, are removing selinux, the touchscreen drivers and bluetooth drivers.

If you don't know what it is, don't touch it.

Then go

make
make headers_install
make modules_install
make install

then it'll be on grub and all, you can boot from it from there on out. If anything goes wrong you'll notice.

Mind sharing how to remove SELinux from the kernel? I dislike it and might as well remove it all together instead of just disabling it once I an in the OS.

Toward the bottom, under "Security Option", it's "NSA SELinux Support"

Remember to ONLY do this if you know theres no security risk in removing it(Like if you're not using a web server, you're not running a bunch of random scripts, and the like).
