View Full Version : Nvidia Drivers error

Hi, I am a linux noob.. Ive been trying to install nvidia drivers, I got nvidia geforce 4.. I've used the command rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
yum install kmod-nvidia-96xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx-libs
reboot" And it says something has alredy been installed, then I try to get the nvidia geforce 4 download, or what no and it doesn't work. Help/Differnt method on installing it would be appreciated.

Can you post that message for us? full version preferably?

sounds me me like it's already installed, and your trying to re-install.

I dont remember installing it, unless it installed it self? Anyway I can find out? Another reason I dont think I have it installed because compiz fuzion goes to a white screen..

Ok, but can you re-run the commands you were trying and post the output here?

to see what nvidia rpm's are installed . run this in the terminal


rpm -qa | grep nvidia
also the nvidia.run file from the nvidia web site will require you to do some very special things to get it to work correctly .

to my knowledge the message during boot that "something is already installed" when using nvidia from RPMfusion is normal. i also have that during a reboot, i believe it is something to do with the driver checking if it needs to rebuild the kernelmodule during boottime and then reports that everything is ok and the driver is already installed.

did you run "livna-config-display" to set up your driver after installation?
