I have a ThinkPad T43. There are no obvious hardware incompatibilities. Ubuntu boots in under a minute. So does Windows 7 Beta. But Fedora takes over 6 minutes to boot!

Any idea what I can do to speed this up?

I am running an encrypted install, if that makes a difference. (I was doing the same with Ubuntu.)

I know when my computer has a problem like this it's got something to do with the network connection not working. Usually hangs up on sendmail for a while, and the ntp sync, and other network related items.

Good Luck,
Pat Jr.

I will restart and watch closely to see where it hangs. If that proves to be the problem, how can I fix it?

Okay, the problem seems to be at the beginning. The first thing it does on boot is read the hard drive volumes. I get a couple hundred lines that begin ata1.00: and a lot of errors. After it finishes, the boot process goes pretty quickly. Any idea what is going on?

Well, looks like it was not Fedora, but my hard drive in its death throes.
