Kuickshow is the fastest image viewer that I have found for Linux. The preloading of images makes it very useful also on old hardware. Unfortunately Kuickshow was dropped from Fedora starting with version 9, probably because of lack of maintenance to fix its bugs and limitations. Kuickshow has been moved to KDE Extra Gear

Hopefully there will be a Kuicshow version for KDE 4.x. While waiting for that to happen one can compile Kuickshow on Fedora 9 and 10 against the KDE 3.5 libraries as follows provided the needed development libraries are installed:
wget http://download.kde.org/stable/3.5.10/src/kdegraphics-3.5.10.tar.bz2
bunzip2 kdegraphics-3.5.10.tar.bz2
tar xvf kdegraphics-3.5.10.tar
cd kdegraphics-3.5.10
./configure
cd kuickshow
make
make install
