I installed Real Player 11 Gold using the rpm found at the official site but when I try to play an rmvb on it it closes instantly. it does not play the faintest trace of audio or video :(

after that i did some searching and came across this tutorial (http://hacktux.com/fedora/codecs) which i found at http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=1034159&postcount=2 but it still didn't work. however this it atleast showed the first frame (but no audio) and then froze..

could someone please help me with playing rmvb file on FC10? i've played it on FC6 using Real Player on this machine (although the sound didn't work at the time either)

is your install of fedora10 32 bit or fedora 10 64 bit
and is this how you installed it
from the terminal run

su
( your root password)
cd to/the/folder/real.rpm/is/in
rpm -ivh RealPlayer11GOLD.rpm

or in firefox the rpm will open the install dialog

and can you post the error when you start real player in the terminal

realplay

The program 'realplay.bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
