View Full Version : FC10 - fsck fails after changing /etc/fstab

31st December 2008, 06:56 PM
Fedora Core 10

/etc/fstab had a line to mount /usr/local with the UID or (serial number)

I changed the mount point to /usr/local_hostname, and now the system will not boot.

It starts fsck:
/: clean
/var: clean
/usr: clean
/usr/local: clean
/tmp: clean
/boot: clean
*** An error occurred during the file system check
*** Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot
*** hen you leave the shell.
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D to continue):

When I give the root password, it looks like the only mounted file system is / .
ls shows all the mount points.

At the
(Repair filesystem) 7 #
prompt, do I enter fsck, or is there something else I can change?

OK. The file system was on /dev/sd8.

(Repair filesystem) 7 # fsck /dev/sd8

Same failure on reboot.

(Repair failesystem) 7 # fsck

Then the reboot was successful.
