Hi guys.

Just noticed some dell stuff that I have not seen posted here pertaining to temperature control by the biosy with the dell xps laptops. I have read that xps laptops have had temp problems and high GUI failure because of this so hopefully this solves some of those issues.

My laptop shipped with the a05 biosy about a year ago, I read a thread on another forum about biosy upgrades for the 1330 with better temp control because of heating problems with the xps series. I upgraded mine to the newest biosy version and things look better so far with temps though not a huge difference.

The temp fix
1. Added enhancement for thermal control.
2. Update Intel CPU family name.
is with the A09 biosy for the 1530 that was released on
Release Date: 7/25/2008
the latest release is the A12
Release Date: 11/23/2008

Also the 1330 is stated with
Version: A11
Release Date: 6/19/2008
1. Added enhancement for thermal control.

Version: A12
Release Date: 7/9/2008
1. Added enhancement for thermal control.
2. Update GM965 Graphics VBIOS from 1466 to 1588.
3. Update Intel CPU family name.

Latest 1330 is

Are you able to use gkrellm and lm_sensors on that lappy?

Sensors work out of the box in fedora10 (and 9) on xps m1330.

Thanks for the info Omni-Tom!
Going to upgrade when I have time.

And sensors work fine.

I have F9 and lm_sensors showing perfectly on gkrellm :)

If anybody wants to update your DELL firmware under Fedora, it couldn't be easier:

# set up repos
wget -q -O - http://linux.dell.com/repo/software/bootstrap.cgi | bash
wget -q -O - http://linux.dell.com/repo/firmware/bootstrap.cgi | bash
# install firmware tools
yum -y install firmware-addon-dell
# install BIOS update
yum -y install $(bootstrap_firmware)
update_firmware --yes

Follow these steps, reboot and be happy!
