View Full Version : Can't see Solar theme during boot

29th November 2008, 01:52 PM
I just installed F 10 from the DVD and am loving it. However, I was under the impression that after the install, during boot, I would be able to see the Solar theme with the sun flares and all. But all I can see is a black screen, with a M$ like load-bar thingy at the bottom with Fedora 10 written.
How do I get to see the new artwork goodies?
Am I missing out on something?
Thanks in advance.

This was covered numerous times, please try a search first next time.
The answer is to add "vga=0x318" to the kernel boot line.
There are more detailed instructions in the how-to section.

Or, you could try "vga=0x315" if the one above does not work. (I use 315)

AFAICT, the 315 is for netbook types, AA1, ASUS EEE and the like. Probably for all those using 1280x600. JakeS is 1280x600 the resolution in the machine where you use 0x315?

Thank you. It works with vga=0x318 now. I did a search for it, in fact but found nothing for F 10. I must have typed wrong keywords then.
Oh well. Thanks all the same.

It does not work here.
I have an integrated nvidia card(GForce 6100) and a 19# LCD monitor(the best resolution is 1440X900)。
I follow the release note and add the vga=0x318 to the kernel boot line in the grub config file and reboot system.
It failed to boot.

Ah Nvdias are a different bug. Look for the sticky about NVidia cards. (Go to the forum index, click the Guides and How Tos section and you'll see it in there, a sticky about NVidia by Leigh.)
